New In-Flow Coolant Temperature Sensors

Now available from ATC Semitec are the new TKS inline coolant sensors, which offer a neat temperature monitoring solution for cooling systems in the e-vehicle and automotive industry in general. The temperature sensor is sealed directly into the pipe assembly allowing ease of installation as well as simple integration.

The sensor directly measures the temperature of fluid as it flows past its sensing tip therefore providing fast and accurate temperature readings to the control system. Alternative options such as clip-on sensors measure temperatures indirectly and therefore are not regarded as responsive or as accurate.

The liquid cooling system in EVs plays an important role in optimising the performance of batteries and powertrains. Accurate temperature monitoring of the fluid in the coolant loop helps the thermal management system maintain the optimal operation of batteries and other components.

ATC Semitec offer two standard pipe versions – ribbed and smooth. The first is designed for use with rigid polymer hoses whereas the latter is for use with elastomer hose systems.

Installed within the inlet or the outlet hoses, the sensor directly monitors the temperature of the coolant providing a rapid response (Tc ≤ 15s) with a ±1% accuracy NTC thermistor as standard.  This helps to ensure an overall system accuracy better than ±1°C between the coolant temperature and the sensor reading.

The standard NTC thermistors used in these sensors have R25 values of 10k ohms or 100k ohms with a ±1% R25 accuracy.  Other resistance values, pipe sizes and connectors can be supplied for high volume applications.

These coolant sensors have a general operating range of -40°C to 125°C and form part of an extensive range of coolant sensors, thermal sensors and circuit protection devices available from ATC Semitec
