How do you recommend we mount an NTC sensor?
A recent enquiry from a customer posed this question which can be applicable across many of our sensors
How do you recommend we mount the Semitec 103AT-11 NTC sensor?
Accurate and reliable temperature readings depend on secure mounting and good thermal contact between the thermistor and the measurement surface. The variety of thermistor formfactors available pose different conundrums when considering how best to secure them in place.
For example, our popular IP67 rated Semitec 103AT-11 can be mounted in several ways:

- Friction/Mechanical Fit
A slot or bore hole could be machined in or near the target surface for a snug press-fit. This provides secure placement without adhesives. - Adhesive/Epoxy
For permanent installation, glue or epoxy could be used to secure the sensor in place – this could be in tandem with a slot or bore hole for optimal placement. This is ideal in high-vibration environments but note that thicker epoxy layers may slow response time due to added thermal mass. - Clips (Saddle or Jubilee)
A Ø5mm saddle clip could be used to allow the sensor to be secured to a surface using a screw or nut and bolt. Alternatively, the sensor could be strapped to a pipe with a jubilee clip – which offers the advantages of being both removable and non-invasive while maintaining good thermal contact. - Ambient/Immersion Use
The sensor can also be left free in air or submerged in water for general environmental monitoring, requiring only secure wiring.
Alternative Sensor Assemblies with Built-in Mounting:
Also from ATC Semitec we stock a wide range of temperature sensors with integrated mounting features. These include:

- ATC Semitec STS2 – ring sensors with M3 – M8 ring lugs for easy screw-in surface mounting
- ATC Semitec BTS3 – clip-on sensors for various pipes
- ATC Semitec BTS5 – immersion sensor with ¼” BSPG thread for pipe T-junctions or inlets
These products form part of our large range of NTC thermistors and NTC temperature sensors.
